The Formation of the Island

The Formation of the Island tells the story of the birth of the island, Taiwan. This exhibition room is the starting point for the route; therefore, this theme also connotes the significance of the origin of all living beings present in Taiwan.

First, the corridor resembling the plate movement at the entrance points out the significance of the played during the birth of Taiwan. Following it is detailed description on the topics of global plate movement and Penglai Orogeny. The focal point is the Central Mountains, as the most magnificent product of Penglai Orogeny. The large-scale mountain image across the room illustrates the Central Mountains being the main axis of Taiwan. Hua-tung longitude rift valley between the Costal Range and the Central Mountains is the focus of the global plate study, as well as the indispensable of the exhibition. The largest terrestrial volcanic system in Taiwan, Tatun Volcano Group, is presented to tell the story of a disappearing plate.

Earthly yellow is the main color of this exhibition room, representing the chaotic space at the birth of the Earth. The topics are arranged in a geographical order, so that visitors can explore the origin of our homeland and feel as if they were in a miniature version of the island.
